For Joint Special Operations personnel in the U.S. military, the RQ-11B Raven small unmanned aircraft system delivers real-time direct situational awareness and target intelligence. The Raven is a man-portable unmanned aircraft system.
Two air vehicles, or AVs, a ground control unit, a remote video terminal, transit cases, and support gear are all included in the Raven backpackable system. The Raven AV is piloted by two specially trained special operators. The AV can be operated manually or it can go on its own and follow a predetermined path.
For nighttime missions, the Raven has an infrared camera and a colour electro-optical camera. The hand-launched, less than 5-pound air vehicle may fly for up to 80 minutes.
The Raven UAS has proven itself in combat, assisting American operations in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as other hotspots of hostilities. All branches of the armed forces now employ the Raven. To replace the Pointer and Desert Hawk UAS, the Air Force bought the Raven UAS.
