This is the first step in my new four-part series on self publishing successfully. I've had the basic 3 or 4 steps in place for several years through my Guerrilla Publishing program but am getting better at communicating them. The idea here is that it's much harder to convince an audience to take a chance on your book if YOU can't find the value or benefits.

You'd have to reach them first and explain WHY they should enjoy reading your book, which is much harder than figuring out what your audience is already actively searching for and positioning your book to show up and appeal to them immediately (so you don't need to explain or convince or "sell" your book at all - you only need to show up).

This doesn't necessarily mean "write to market" though that certainly helps: this means respect your audience enough and publishing professionally enough to be WILLING to create good content that someone else will enjoy on purpose, rather than doing what feels good or easy in the moment and hoping to get lucky with it somehow later.
