Taunton State Hospital opened as the State Lunatic Hospital at Taunton in 1854 and was the second state asylum in Massachusetts.

The building shown in this video was known as the Kirkbride Building, and closed in 1975. Part of it collapsed in 1999, a fire destroyed a large portion in 2006, and it was finally demolished in 2009.
