One of the last remaining WDM2 locomotive of DLS New Guwahati (NGC): WDM2 18589 heading towards Guwahati railway station for its schedule duty of mainline service, through the 'Caution Order' Line from New Guwahati Diesel Locomotive Shed(DLS).

The WDM2 locomotives are either rebuilt to WDM3A (specially the 16XXX series) or they are scrapped (17XXX and 18XXX series) due to overage.

The WDM2 locomotives were the main workhorses of Indian Railways, it revolutionised the diesel traction in India.

Now, it has become very difficult to spot any WDM2 locomotives working in the mainline. The remaining fleet of WDM2 locos are either are scrapped or restricted to shunting duty in railway yards.
