Day 67 and 68 of our overland journey from the UK to Australia 🇬🇪

We wake up in Batumi expecting an easy travel day… and it almost turns into one of the longest yet. Multiple marshrutkas, a mid-journey change, traffic chaos, and we end up being dropped miles outside Kutaisi. Not ideal.

After climbing a massive hill to our hotel, we grab some local Georgian food at Magnolia before an early night. Back at the hotel, I break down the journey so far how this trip has slowly levelled up from easy travel, to Balkans mode, to now feeling like a proper adventure through Eastern Turkey and Georgia. And honestly, I’m loving it.

The next morning we head straight out for breakfast, sunshine, snow still on the ground, cheap baked goods… and a completely unhinged moment in the cafe that nobody was prepared for 😂

From there we explore Kutaisi. street art, the cheese-making street, botanical gardens, a 400-year-old tree with a chapel built into it, and a church with an unreal view. We also witness a very close call with some aggressive dogs, which I talk about later back on the balcony.

We finish the day with one of Georgia’s most famous dishes, chicken in blackberry sauce plus fried cheese balls and ice cream. Not our favourite food country so far, but we’re keeping an open mind.

We then realise it’s Christmas here tomorrow…
