“Ngayon naman, kaliwa’t kanan ang mga pagsubok na inyong kinakaharap — mula sa pabago-bagong klima hanggang sa mga kalamidad — hindi namin kayo pababayaan,” expressed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., reassuring the heroes who frontline the nation’s food security — the farmers, fisherfolk and their families — of the Administration’s unwavering commitment to help them recover in times of crises and further empower their livelihood.

Addressing the Negrenses during the distribution of various government assistance in Bacolod City, the President recalled the damage caused by the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon, particularly to the agriculture of the entire Province of Negros Occidental. He acknowledged the swift relief and rehabilitation efforts made by the local government and various agencies such as the Department of Agriculture (DA), which also conducted measures to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon on farming and fishing communities.

He underscored the government’s ceaseless efforts to help uplift the lives of all those in the sector as the provision of government aid continued, with PhP10,000 cash assistance distributed to select beneficiaries from Bacolod City and the Province of Negros Occidental. Additionally, the City Government and the Provincial Government received monetary support amounting to PhP10 million and PhP50 million, respectively.

Apart from this, farm machineries and equipment were also provided to help sustain the sector’s productivity, alongside other forms of assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and many other agencies.

The Chief Executive further reassured the Negrenses that they will not be left behind in terms of development as different projects are underway for the Province, including the anticipated partial opening of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway and the construction of 12 new bridges, among others.

“Pinapangako ko na walang magsasaka o mangingisda, o sinumang Pilipino ang mapag-iiwanan sa aming pinapangarap na Bagong Pilipinas. Bilang inyong Pangulo, ang aking pangarap ay isang bansang maunlad kung saan ang bawat isa ay mamumuhay nang may dangal at katiyakan sa kanilang kinabukasan. Sa inyong tulong at suporta, makakamit po natin ito,” President Marcos Jr. conveyed in his message.
