Wolf Creek Ski Resort: The Knife Ridge Experience

Wolf Creek Ski Resort is an amazing mountain in SW Colorado in between South Fork and Pagosa Springs near Wolf Creek Pass. It is known for getting the most snow in Colorado at near 400"+ every year. The Knife Ridge area is really a sort of inbounds backcountry experience. One must start off by taking the Alberta chair lift. Then you are required to hike up 2-3 stories of boot pack snow "steps". Once this is done, you must hike 10-15 min along "Knife Ridge" including some steel steps which are adhered to the side of a cliff. This hike is is not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights / drop offs. Once the hike is completed, you must ride/ski down a narrower road/run keeping your speed up to eventually reach a snowcat that will take you up the remaining distance to reach the top of Horseshoe Bowl. The views here are amazing and some of the best in Colorado in my humble opinion. At this point, its time to drop into the double black bowl and ride thigh to waste deep power throughout the "backcountry" of Wolf Creek Ski Resort. In this video the runs travelled are "Horseshow Bowl, Voodoo Bowl, and Spooner Hill". It is quite a unique experience especially for an inbounds area of a patrolled ski resort. In many cases you are the first tracks or following 1-2 brave soul's tracks from earlier runs to make sure you find it back to the Charity Jane Lift to return to the center of the resort.

My wife and I learned to ski / snowboard respectively late in life starting at 37/38 respectively. We always hoped one day we'd be able to get the skills to ride the runs off of "Knife Ridge" at Wolf Creek. 3-4 years later when we finally did, I thought it could be interesting to film the entire experience of getting to and riding these amazing runs. Whether your ski/ride or not I think it is an interesting video that captures the essence of what this experience is all about.
