Second Stimulus Check and Stimulus Package Update (WHEN?)

Will we see a second stimulus check? We had bipartisan agreement from Democrats, Republicans and even the president. With everything that is unfolding, what is the status of stimulus checks? Some people are asking about $1200 checks, $1600 stimulus checks, $3200 stimulus checks. What is going on? So, lets clear things up.

This is by far the most asked question I have seen this weekend that we will be discussing as yesterday we saw President Donald Trump issue four executive orders none of which mentioned second stimulus checks. President Trump basically said congress has had several weeks of negotiations and have failed to agree upon terms for a stimulus package to allow provisions to the American people so he will be stepping in and issuing executive orders to accomplish this.

Now President Trump mentioned he was aware that he may be receiving a lawsuit challenging him and his authority to issue these executive orders because any additional funding must come from congress. And regarding the unemployment benefits he did not need congressional approval since the executive order was reallocating funds and not issuing new funds.

Therefore, we did not see an executive order from President Donald Trump in regard to a second round of stimulus checks. This would issuing new funds which he does not have the power to do. When he mentioned in a previous interview that the next stimulus checks would be more generous, he received criticism for saying that since it ultimately would be a decision made by congress to be included in the new stimulus package.

The delay on checks is due to congress not coming to an agreement to what should be included in the next stimulus package. Although economic impact payments of $1200 per individual and $2400 per couple have been agreed upon, there are other items such as unemployment benefits, state and local funding, and other items that haven’t had agreement and are stopping all items from passing into law.

However the executive orders issued by the president yesterday, although may not hold up in court are a step in the right direction as they are now putting pressure on congress to reassemble and work on passing another stimulus package which should include a second round of stimulus checks.

For those confused about the amounts, many people were confused yesterday due to youtubers writing $1600 per month but not specifying this was regarding the executive order issued for unemployment benefits of $400 per week; this was not the economic impact payments aka the second round of stimulus checks. It remains as I mentioned $1200 for individuals, that will receive the full amount if making under $75,000 per year; $2400 per couple that will receive the full amount if making under $150,000 per year. And the amount for dependents is still in the air and will likely be $500 or $1200 per dependent as that is what was proposed in the HEROES Act and HEALS Act.

Regarding will we still see a second stimulus check. If congress can get together and assemble a bill, I believe we will. Luckily the pressure is on. At this moment however without agreement on a bill there are no checks on the way. It is expected that once agreements are made, a bill is written and receives approval from the House and the Senate, then the president will sign it into law and those with direct deposit set up with the IRS should receive their checks within 7 days (minimum of 14 if bank holds apply).
