http://greatmusicLA.org | Welcome to Classical Sundays at Six, (formerly Sundays Live) taking place at St. James-in-the-City, Los Angeles, California. Along with our other offerings of Great Music at Saint James, Classical Sundays at Six remains the oldest continuing chamber music series broadcast in Southern California.
Join Ciaramella in their return to live performances with a concert of spinning dances from the Renaissance, from the courtly basse danses of fifteenth-century courts to rousing sixteenth-century bransles de Champaigne, alongside love songs with subtle turns of phrase spun by Fortune’s Wheel. Performed in recorder, shawm, bagpipe, sackbut, viol, and hurdy gurdy.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Praised for performing intricate fifteenth-century counterpoint “with the ease of jazz musicians improvising on a theme,” Ciaramella brings to life medieval and early Renaissance music from historical events and manuscripts. Its members, faculty, alumnae, and graduates of the USC Thornton school of Musicology and Early Music Programs, are united by the conviction that every composition conceals a rich story waiting to be unlocked through historical research and speculative performance.
