[Nicholas Weilinger] Chloride Microdomains in Dendritic Swelling

Описание к видео [Nicholas Weilinger] Chloride Microdomains in Dendritic Swelling

Brain Resilience Workshop
May 15-17, 2023

Speaker: Dr. Nicholas Weilinger, University of British Columbia

Dr. Weilinger is a research associate in the MacVicar Lab at the Centre for Brain Health at UBC. His research program combines state-of-the-art imaging approaches with electrophysiology to explore neuron-glia interactions in health and disease. One project is to investigate the molecular underpinnings of cerebral edema (brain swelling), a hallmark of stroke and brain injury. Using fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), Dr. Weilinger studies how chloride and calcium ions in neurons regulate volume changes at the dendrite level, which is important for plasticity, but also pathological swelling, dysfunction, and death.

The session is chaired by Dr. Dylan Cooke, Assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University.
