On this episode of Pathfinder we talk to Laud Anthony Basing who is a scientist, engineer, entrepreneur, and lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology's Department of Medical Diagnostics. As the founder and CEO of Incas Diagnostics, his research focuses on developing simple tests for infectious diseases affecting women and children in Africa. Laud has collaborated internationally, including with the University of Liverpool, the World Health Organization, and Purdue University's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, to develop low-cost diagnostic tests for diseases like HIV and yaws. He currently leads an EDCTP-funded program to evaluate a rapid diagnostic for yaws in Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon. Laud has received multiple recognitions, including nominations for the Innovation Prize for Africa and being named a Gates Goalkeeper by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He also led his team to develop a COVID-19 rapid test kit and won several awards for his innovations against COVID-19.
