Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia is an awesome day trip to take in the southern US. It's only accessible by boat and there's a daily passenger ferry that takes visitors to the secluded island from mainland Georgia. Once on Cumberland Island, hiking trails through oak tree canopies open up to stunning natural beaches.

Yet many visitors come to find the Cumberland Island wild horses that roam free around the island. These wild horses are often found in the historic district, where the Carnegies built a 59-room mansion known as Dungeness.
