Here I am sharing with you different fish curry/fish gravy recipes from 3 different states of India. The first one is al Bengali mustard fish or Shorshe mach, the second is a Kerala style fish curry in coconut milk and the third one is an Andhra Style Fish curry made with tangy Gongura leaves!

That nostalgic aroma of mom cooking fish in mustard oil! You know what I mean?! If you like the flavor of mustard you will love this!

Ingredients

Yield: 3 servings

Panch phoron
Mix equal quantities of
Cumin seeds
Fennel seeds
Methi or Fenugreek seeds
Kalonji or Onion seeds
Mustard seeds

Fish curry
Pomfret Fish... 500g
Mustard Oil... 4 tbsp.
Turmeric powder... 1/2 tsp.
Panch phoron... 1/2 tsp.
Poppy seeds... 1.5 tsp.
Mustard seeds... 1.5 tsp.
Tomatoes (chopped)... 3 tbsp.
Green chillies (slit)... 5-6
Onions (finely chopped)... 3 tbsp.
Coriander leaves (finely chopped)... 1 tbsp
Water... 1.5 cups
Salt... to taste


2)Kerala Style Fish Curry in Coconut Milk/Malabar Style Fish Curry/Fish curry in coconut milk recipe

This is a delicious Kerala-style fish preparation in coconut milk! Use any fish of your choice, it doesn’t matter, the main flavor comes from the mind-blowing gravy! Make sure to cook it in coconut oil for added flavor. Let me know if you enjoyed this recipe!

Ingredients

Yield: 3 servings

Fish...6 pieces (I used Asian Sea Bass or Bhetki)
Onions...1 medium sized (finely chopped)
Crushed Ginger and Garlic...1 tbsp.
Fresh tomato purée...1/2 cup
Curry leaves...10-12
Green chillies (slit)...5-6
Coconut milk...1 can or 400ml
Mustard seeds...1/2 tsp.
Cumin seeds...1/2 tsp.
Fenugreek or methi seeds...1/4 tsp.
Turmeric powder...1/2 tsp.
Coriander powder...2 tsp.
Black pepper powder...1 tsp.
Kashmiri red chilli powder...2 tsp.
Tamarind concentrate...1 tsp.
Water...1/2 cup
Virgin coconut oil...3 tbsp.
Salt...to taste

3)Gongura Fish Curry/Gongura Fish Masala/Gongura Chepala Pulusu/Sorrel Fish Curry/Andhra Fish Curry

This fish curry has an explosion of flavors! The tanginess of Gongura leaves and the addition of lots of chilli powder makes this a “wake-me-up” fish curry! Hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients
Yield: 3 servings

Fish- 6 pieces (I used Bhetki or Barramundi or Asian Sea Bass)
Gongura leaves- 200g (if you like it less tart use 125g)
Onions- 2 medium sized (finely chopped)
Crushed Garlic- 1 tbsp.
Crushed Ginger- 1 tsp.
Coriander leaves (chopped)-1 tbsp.
Curry leaves- 10-12
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp. (and some for coating the fish)
Kashmiri red chilli powder-1 tbsp.
Normal red chilli powder-1 tsp.
Salt (to taste)
Sesame oil or normal oil

For dry masala
Coriander seeds-1 tbsp.
Methi seeds or fenugreek seeds- 20
Black peppercorns- 1/4 tsp.
Cinnamon sticks- 2, 1 inch sticks
Green cardamoms- 5
Star Anise-1
Cloves-6-7
