Unlike yesterday’s ambulance, this one didn’t have the foresight to back out of the new Ferndale Low Traffic Neighbourhood — which is part of the new Liveable Neighbourhoods scheme, I believe — before it was too late.

I came to this scene late as I was getting ready for the webinar “hosted by Lambeth officers”, which was the first human interaction we’ve had regarding this “emergency” scheme. No elected officials took part. The project managers who hosted the scheme seemed reluctant to acknowledge that there might be a problem. I think that the participants in the webinar left them in no doubt that there is. There seems to be no sense of urgency or compromise in fixing it though.

The man you see walking up to the ambulance driver is a neighbour who I didn’t realise was taking part in the webinar — which he kicked off by live-streaming what was happening on the road as the meeting was about to begin. It didn’t seem to make any impression on the hosts. You probably can’t hear what he’s saying, but he asked the driver how long he’d been stuck there. The driver said 15 minutes. But the ambulance crew was probably happy to hang out in our new liveable neighbourhood and had nothing better to do. Thank you Claire Holland!
