Paratenic association: Here one of the associating individuals take advantage of the paratenic host for deriving both nutrition and shelter in order to overcome an ecological gap in the life-cycle. For example the nematode Aelurostrongylus abstrusus develop in molluscs. But to reach its final host, the cat which don’t eat molluscs, it enters birds or rodents as an alternative or paratenic host not compulsorily for further development ,but to wait for the cat to eat up the paratenic host i.e., the bird or rodent whereupon the nematode is able to enter into its final host or the cat.
Phoresy: One of the asociating individuals uses the other as a means of transport for moving to distant places for exploration or better means of livelihood. For example, the Hypoppus stage of tyroglyphid mites attach on to other insects for moving further afield.
