Carotid body and carotid sinus anatomy

Описание к видео Carotid body and carotid sinus anatomy

The carotid body is found at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery in the neck and contains a collection of chemoreceptor cells that monitor the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide, and the pH of the blood. In the first part of the internal carotid artery lies the carotid sinus and baroreceptor cells that monitor the pressure of blood in this region. Both send information back to the brainstem through the glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX) so that the brain can manage blood pressure, blood pH, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the body.
