*Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel* is an action role-playing first-person shooter developed by 2K Australia with Gearbox Software and published by 2K. Set between the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, the game explores the rise of Handsome Jack, the antagonist of Borderlands 2. Players control one of four Vault Hunters, who were previously non-playable characters in the series, as they assist Jack in reclaiming the Helios space station from the Lost Legion and uncovering a hidden vault on Pandora's moon, Elpis.

The game introduces new mechanics such as low-gravity environments, oxygen tanks for breathing and combat, and new weapon types like laser guns and cryogenic weapons. These additions enhance the familiar shoot-and-loot gameplay of the series. The story is framed as a narrative told by Athena, one of the Vault Hunters, to characters from the previous games, adding depth to the lore and character development.

Despite its innovations, the game received mixed reviews, praised for its new features and character classes but criticized for its level design and lack of significant changes from Borderlands 2. Overall, it provides a deeper look into the Borderlands universe and the origins of one of its most iconic villains.
