I’m a lifelong special needs parent. I belong to advocacy groups for younger families because what happens to disabled children today becomes reality for disabled adults tomorrow.

Recently, I read heartbreaking stories from parents of medically fragile children — children on ventilators, feeding tubes, and complex medical support — whose families were told they make “too much money” to qualify for in-home Medicaid services.

When families lose access to support, they are not given real choices.
They are cornered.

Some parents are forced to place their children in nursing homes not because it’s best — but because it’s the only way their child can survive.

This video is not anti-institution.
It is pro-choice for families.

Parents should be able to decide what care works best for their child — whether that’s at home with support or in a medical facility — without judgment, coercion, or financial punishment.

When systems remove options, children and families suffer.

This is about quality of life.
This is about dignity.
This is about care — not cost shifting.
