Philip Lombardo, known as Benny Squint, was born in 1908 in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. Lombardo became an associate of the 116th Street Crew in the 1920s and was arrested for dope dealing at the age of 20. Despite being arrested 20 times throughout his life, he only had one conviction. Starting as a driver for Trigger Mike Coppola, Lombardo gained street respect despite his small stature of 5’6” and 150 pounds. He was also close to Vito Genovese and by the 1960s, he was acting as a Capo, becoming a full Capo after Trigger Mike’s death.Lombardo was deeply involved in various street rackets such as the lottery, loan sharking, gambling, the garment district, and dope dealing from the 1930s onward. After Vito Genovese's death in 1969, Benny the Squint was made the official boss, with Thomas Eboli as the front boss. In 1972, after Eboli's assassination, Funzi Tieri became the front boss. By 1981, Lombardo retired, appointing Chin Gigante as boss and Fat Tony Salerno as the front boss. Philip Lombardo passed away in 1987 at the age of 78.
