International Telecommunication Convention (ITC)

The International Telecommunication Convention (ITC) is an international treaty adopted under the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

It means the Convention of the International Telecommunication Union signed at Geneva in 1992, and includes any subsequent revision or modification, which has been ratified or accepted by the Government of India.

Purpose of ITC:
• To provide the basic legal framework for international telecommunication.
• To ensure orderly development and use of telecommunication services.
• To promote international cooperation in radio communication.


Radio Regulations (RR)

Radio Regulations are a set of internationally agreed rules framed under the ITC.

Radio Regulations mean the Regulations adopted by the World Radiocommunication Conference (Geneva 1995), including all revisions or modifications, which have been ratified or accepted by the Government of India.

Purpose of Radio Regulations:
• Allocation and management of the radio frequency spectrum.
• Prevention of harmful interference between radio services.
• Regulation of radio communication procedures.
• Assignment of call signs and frequencies.


Relationship Between ITC and Radio Regulations
• ITC provides the legal authority and framework.
• Radio Regulations provide the technical and operational rules.
• Radio Regulations are an integral part of ITC.
