Beano is back and it's brought some friends. Join me as I delve haphazardly into the vague history of art and comics. Today I look at the first comic character The yellow kid and learn about D.C.Thompsons big 5. The comics they produced before the dandy and the beano and how they led into those iconic rags. We look at some primordial British humour strips such as softie Simpkins, Nero and zero, A smart guy turns pink when given a drink and Nosey Parker who I have drawn with a monocle...I don't know why it just seemed right.
