-- PRESENTATION: YAGYŪ SHINGAN RYŪ HEIHŌ --
The Yagyū Shingan school founder Takenaga Hayato Kanetsugu became a shogunate instructor after being introduced to various martial arts. He learned the Yagyū style under the direction of Yagyū Munenori, and became so familiar with it that he exceptionally received the name of Yagyū Shingan. His teachings then spread widely among practitioners within the Sendai and the Edo domains. They spanned the Bakumatsu period through personalities such as the Chūkōnoso Oyamasamon Yukifusa, and was passed on to the famous Hoshi Teikichi Yoshimaru, who was a master of Yōkendō martial arts in the Sendai area. The latter also trained many disciples, mainly in the north of Miyagi, and made Tohoku the pinnacle of the Yagyū Shingan style.
Hoshi Hikojūrō Kuniyuki founded the Ryūshinkan in year 11 of Shōwa era, and became master of the 17th generation.
Subsequently, in year 56 of the same era, the Ryūshinkan obtained the status of ‘Intangible Cultural Property’ from Miyagi Prefecture. Hoshi Tokuichi (21st generation) is the current soke of the school.
The particularity of this school is the harmonious development of weapon, stick and saber skills, based on the 28 basic forms of Taijutsu.
