You’ll need to have both a Namecheap and a GoDaddy account before you can get started.

Begin by logging into your GoDaddy account and click on Visit My Account. Click on Manage next to Web Hosting and on Manage again. Find the IP Address, which will be located on the left under Server Details, and copy it.

Log into your Namecheap account in another tab and click on Dashboard, which is under the Account drop down. You’ll see the domain name a bit further down the page, hover over the house icon, and click on Advanced DNS. If you don’t see an A Record under Type, click on Add New Record and enter the IP address you copied into the Value field. If there is an A Record, click on the Value field and replace the information in that field with the IP address you just copied. Click on the checkmark to the right to confirm your changes.

Now your domain name from Namecheap is pointing to GoDaddy. Go back to GoDaddy and click on Hosted Domains on the left. Click on the Add Domain button at the top right and in the pop-up window, enter the new domain name and the folder, and then click OK. You’ll be taken back to the Hosted Domains page where you should see your new domain name listed as Pending or Setup. It may take up to 10 minutes for this process to complete.

The next step you’ll need to take is to install WordPress on your new site. To do this, click on Home in the upper navigation bar and then Applications on the left. Click on Install next to WordPress. In the pop-up choose the domain name you’ll be working with, fill in all the other fields as necessary, and click on OK.
