Since its inception in 2004 PCBS issued Rand 6.5 bn in guarantees which means that they have been involved with contracts put out by the government in the amount of Rand 65 bn. This is a clear indication that the government has spent a substantial amount for public infrastructure.

However, explains Brian Africa, poor spending patterns and non-transparent project roll-outs make the need for a more collaborative approach between all stakeholders to infrastructure planning and project implementation crucial for a more sustainable future in South Africa's construction industry.
