Definition
Section 9 of the Act  states that,
“A transfer of property may be made without writing in every case in which a writing is not expressly required by law."

 Writing is necessary for the following transactions:
Sale of immovable property of value of Rs. 100 or upwards(Sec. 54)
Simple mortgage of specific immovable property of any value.(Sec.59)
Lease from year to year or for any term exceeding one year or reserving a yearly rental.(Sec. 107)
Exchange of the value of Rs. 100 or upwards.(Sec. 108)
Transfer of actionable claim.(Sec.130)
Notice of transfer of actionable claim.
