How One Misclick Destroyed Thousands of Hours of Work

Imagine spending 2,100 hours working on a project. For 12 hours a day you’re sitting at your computer chipping away at a passion project you’ve put your heart and soul into.

And then just like that, the equivalent of 87 days or almost three months of non-stop work - gone, in an instant.

That’s exactly what happened to B0aty, the rockstar of Runescape.

When it comes to Runescape, B0aty is a loveable a--hole known for being an OG content creator with a hilariously twisted relationship with his community.

And if you didn’t know Runescape’s an almost 20-year-old point and click RPG where you level up your character, complete quests and kill a ton of stuff.

And for the few years, B0aty’s been running what’s known as Hardcore Ironman account.

It basically means you decided that you hate yourself and you want to make things as difficult as possible.

The whole idea is that you only get one life. If you die that’s it. No do-overs you gotta start from scratch.

To be clear, if you die, it’s not like developer Jagex deletes your account - you keep everything that you’ve accumulated. But your hardcore status goes out the window, and you can no longer contribute to leaderboards.

And for guys like B0aty, guys who hilariously ban people from chat over the slightest infraction and have hardcore bragging rights - that status means everything.

On his most recent account, running a character named OzyNamDied, B0aty put 2,100 hours of work into his build.

That’s almost three months of grinding, 87 days of being PERFECT at one of the most difficult modes in an already obtuse game.

And with one miss click chat watched in gleeful horror as his perfect Hardcore record went out the window.
