Thoughts:
I really love how this board looks, anything classic styling for me is a win, but it's just a really cool shape and design, well proportioned, and a whole lotta brass lol. Went for the brass penrail for both having a weight on the top of the case and because it's fun lol. Honestly beige was my first choice but I like the vibe with WoB. Comfy angle and low front height.
This is a classic looking board and honestly feels and sounds kinda classic plateless too. A stiffer classic gasket mount and a bit more resonant case design just lends it to that vibe lol. To be honest I don't think it's as good as some of the best plateless boards I've tried but it's a consistently reliable experience and that is nice. It's a bit more on the muted side of things vibrationally and has a more typical gasket sound/feel that makes most things feel comfortable, a lot of different builds have worked well here on this board but I felt most happy with browns at the time. This batch of browns isn't my greatest but it's still nice, I favor heavier weighted switches with this board to get a bit of extra flex out of it, I think clears would go really hard here though, or other stronger tactiles. The spacebar of the board is kinda rattly and not great with all gaskets inserted, and I ended up liking the feel and sound of the board more without the spacebar gaskets installed. I also felt like GMK was just by far the way to go with how this board is. It's a solid plateless implementation, if not a bit older than what the newest plateless boards go for, but with a bit of tuning it can be pretty good. I do admit that the board visually carries it for me more than the typing experience, but that's partially my current build, and just the fact that it looks so good lol. Like it, but will be trying to sell it since I still have too many plateless boards around lol
This batch of browns didn't really come out ideal, I used durock double stage springs and they're just too long and too prone to crunch for it to not bother me. Heavier weights are good, but this is a bit too long, I think with a good geon or sprit or even tx spring this would be a fair bit better. The browns are also more on the dry side of things which I do think works well with this board sound wise at least. Stabs also aren't ideal but I just used some durock I had laying around since I can easily swap them cause plateless lol.
Build:
ai03 Vector SE - Black PVD
Plateless Poron Gasket Mount (no spacebar gasket)
BI+L+F+SS Cherry HG Browns (Durock Double Stage 62g springs, TX films, broken in 1.2m actuations)
Durock v2
1.6mm FR4 Solder
Brass Penrail
GMK Black Snail
Equipment:
Josephson C716 / Neumann U87i (Thiersch Reskin) → Crane Song Flamingo.1 → CS Interstellar (and Nikon D5500 cam mic)
C716 head level, from seating position, on axis centered alphas, cardioid pattern, decoupled. U87i head level, directly above board, on axis, cardioid, decoupled.
Max -.1db peak (excluding camera), no further processing.
C716 is accurate and honest to typing in person to my ear, extremely sensitive though. U87i is also honest but slight sweetness and grandness with slight grit, reskin and mods add some clarity and slight treble boost at cost of smoothness, direct overhead for different perspective and how most people record their boards (not as realistic). Crappy cam mic cause why not.
Bad IKEA slab into acoustic membrane on concrete (slightly hollow and thinner sounding, weighted down with heavy equipment, isolated from floor)
Aiglatson Studio Synchronize Jacquard (thicker and slightly stiffer, partially isolates from desk)
