Hundrað þúsund þrælar is the saga of a forgotten empire and the eldritch god-emperor who once ruled it in blood and shadow. Originally released as three separate albums, the trilogy is now presented as one remastered whole — a single mythic descent told through blackened funeral doom.
I. Með blóði þúsund þræla
The tale opens with a civilization enthralled by their god’s insatiable hunger. To appease his gluttony, they offer blood and the lives of their firstborns, binding themselves in endless ceremonies of devotion. But devotion conceals rebellion. Behind veils of smoke and sacrifice, an elderly soothsayer whispers of a prophecy: that the god’s excess will undo both himself and the empire built upon his thirst. Though enthroned in stone and worshipped as eternal, his reign cracks beneath its own weight. Betrayal takes root, his temples crumble, and he is bound in cold masonry — sealed away for a hundred thousand aeons, imprisoned within the silence of his own desolation.
II. Eilíf ánað
When the god stirs again, aeons have passed and the empire lies dormant, withered like a crypt long forgotten. The mortal world has grown estranged, blind to the eternal decree of worship that once ruled every breath. Enraged by their forsaking, the god rises as tyrant, seeking retribution against all who dared forget his name. His fury is carved into the land itself, dragging the world into a barren wasteland. None are spared; no refuge is offered. To live beneath his gaze is to suffer beneath oppression without mercy. His empire is rebuilt, not on wisdom or discipline, but on fear — a dominion of torment where worship is demanded, but love has long since fled.
III. Harmur keisarans
Yet even this reign could not endure. In his awakening, the god unleashed a plague that spread like black mist — famine, drought, and death rolling across his kingdom. His empire buckled beneath the very shadow he cast. The pillars of power crumbled, his strength withered, and decay seeped into his sinews, bones, and veins. Once immortal, he felt himself unravel, a throne presiding over ruin, a crown heavy with emptiness. Grief overtook him — not for his people, for none remained, but for the hollowness of dominion itself: rule without life, sovereignty over silence.
RECEPTION
The trilogy has been praised as dark, majestic, and utterly immersive. Listeners describe it as ritualistic, crushing, and liberating — “doom on a whole new level,” where awe and terror entwine. Some liken its opening to the stirring of an eldritch god, others to the collapse of forgotten empires, and many called it a masterpiece that demands revisiting in full. From its suffocating weight to its cold, cavernous grandeur, Hundrað þúsund þrælar emerges as a vast journey through blackened funeral doom — where awe and dread converge.
