Kenya Air Force Marks 10th Anniversary | May, 1974

On Thursday, May 30, 1974, the Kenya Air Force celebrated a decade of dedicated service since it’s establishment. The ceremony was held at the Eastleigh Air Base in Nairobi and graced by the Commander-In-Chief, President Jomo Kenyatta.

It was President Kenyatta who had commissioned the Kenyan Air Force in 1964. Then the force was made up of a few light trainer aircraft and a few Kenyan Cadets and servicemen.

Since its foundation, the force had grown immensely and the training of Kenyans under British supervision had culminated with Colonel D.N. Cichuru assuming full command of the Air Force as its first Kenyan Commander in April 1973. This completed the ‘Africanisation’ of Kenya's three services.
