🧵 Description
In this session, I’m attaching the zipper to the left front panel of the jacket. I switch to a specific zipper foot — the slimmer two‑toe version — so the stitching stays close enough to the zipper tape for accuracy, but still leaves a small gap for the topstitching that will happen later. The back side of the collar, which was previously overlocked and left loose, is folded over so it can be sewn into the zipper seam and turned cleanly afterwards. The same folding logic applies to the waistband and the bottom edge. When turning the collar seam, both seams must align and face the correct direction so the later topstitching runs cleanly and everything sits in the right place.

Using a slim two‑toe zipper foot to control distance from the zipper teeth

Leaving a deliberate gap for the later topstitching along the zipper

Folding the overlocked collar underside into the zipper seam for a clean turn

Folding the waistband and bottom edge in the same way for consistent construction

Ensuring both collar seams align and face the correct direction before stitching

Preparing the entire front edge so the final topstitch will run straight and even

🎛️ 2. Reflection – Purpose & Process
Attaching the zipper on the left side sets the foundation for the entire front closure. The choice of zipper foot is intentional — it gives control without crowding the teeth, which is important because the final topstitch needs its own space. Folding the overlocked collar underside into the seam creates a clean, enclosed finish once it’s turned back out. Repeating this method at the waistband and bottom edge keeps the construction consistent and predictable. Aligning the collar seams at this stage prevents twisting or misalignment later, ensuring the final topstitch flows smoothly from top to bottom. This step prepares the jacket for the right‑side zipper installation and the final front finishing.
