The trek from Manebhanjyang to Sandakphu is one of the most popular Himalayan treks in the Eastern region of Nepal and India. It offers breathtaking views of the world’s highest peaks, including Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu. Sandakphu, at 3,636 meters (11,941 feet), is the highest point in the Singalila Ridge and provides panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Trek Route Description:
Day 1: Manebhanjyang to Tumling (11 km)
• Elevation: Manebhanjyang (1,929 m) → Tumling (2,920 m)
• Duration: 6–7 hours
• Route Highlights:
• Begin the trek from Manebhanjyang, passing through lush forests of pine and rhododendron.
• Cross Chitre, a small village, and continue uphill through the Singalila National Park.
• Reach Tumling, which offers views of the Kanchenjunga range.
Day 2: Tumling to Kalipokhri (13 km)
• Elevation: Tumling (2,920 m) → Kalipokhri (3,185 m)
• Duration: 5–6 hours
• Route Highlights:
• Pass the Indo-Nepal border trail, often meandering between the two countries.
• Trek through forests and meadows, reaching the quaint village of Gairibas.
• After a steep ascent, arrive at Kalipokhri, known for its serene black lake (“Pokhri” means lake).
Day 3: Kalipokhri to Sandakphu (6 km)
• Elevation: Kalipokhri (3,185 m) → Sandakphu (3,636 m)
• Duration: 3–4 hours
• Route Highlights:
• A relatively short but steep ascent to Sandakphu.
• Enjoy expansive views of the Kanchenjunga range, known as the “Sleeping Buddha”, along with peaks from Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet.
Day 4: Sandakphu to Phalut (optional, 21 km one-way)
• Elevation: Sandakphu (3,636 m) → Phalut (3,600 m)
• Duration: 6–8 hours
• Route Highlights:
• A scenic ridge walk with uninterrupted views of the Himalayas.
• Phalut provides another breathtaking vantage point for sunrise and sunset.
Key Attractions Along the Route:
• Singalila National Park: Rich biodiversity with chances to spot red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and rare birds.
• Floral Diversity: Rhododendrons, orchids, and magnolia trees in full bloom in spring.
• Mountain Vistas: Views of four of the world’s five highest peaks: Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu.
• Local Culture: Interaction with locals from Sherpa, Tamang, and Rai communities.
Return Options:
• Trek back the same route or descend via different trails like Gurdum or Srikhola, which lead to Rimbik.
• Jeep rides are also available for those who prefer to descend quickly from Sandakphu.
