In honour of the centenary of Mr Brynner's birth:

16mm home movies taken by Richard Rodgers at various points during the original production of his The King and I. Performance excerpts are seen from the wings and the house, while the cast is seen backstage in preparation, as well as outside shots of the marquees and the audience coming into the theatre. Whilst Yul Brynner performs throughout, Celeste Holm and later Constance Carpenter (notice the reversal in billing for the latter actress) replaced Gertrude Lawrence as Anna. Another 40 minutes of footage are stored at the New York Public Library's TOFT collection.
