Описание к видео Camping in Big Bend Ranch State Park, Part 1

This video is a step back in time to our April 2016 camping trip to Big Bend Ranch State Park. WOO was just getting started when we made the trip in 2016. We put out several trip highlight videos but we didn't make one about our camp experience until now... This is that video.

Because of its remoteness, ruggedness, and terrain diversity, Big Bend Ranch State Park is easily one of our favorite places on the planet.

At 311,000-acres it's the largest state park in Texas. It's located along the Rio Grande in Brewster and Presidio counties of far west Texas on the US-Mexico border. The closest town of any size is Presidio, Texas. We enter from the west through the Fort Leaton Historic Site.

It's 27 miles of dirt road from FM 170 to the Sauceda Headquarters. Along the way we stop to checkout the Las Cuevas - the caves - and their rock art.

There are primitive hike-in campsites in the interior district of the state park, and there are a few equestrian campsites.

We opt to stay at one of the 51 primitive campsites in the interior that can be reached by vehicle. We camped at Papalote Llano Nuevo. A high-clearance vehicle is needed to reach this site.

Amenities: Papalote Llano Nuevo campsite has a shelter for shade, picnic table and a fire ring.

LAS CUEVAS
On the way to the Ranger Station we checkout Las Cuevas which are overhangs with rock art and and grain grinding holes made 3,000 years ago.

ROAD TO NOWHERE
The Road to Nowhere is a single lane dirt road that winds its way up the Solitario. The views are spectacular. The road is moderately rough but does not require rock crawling equipment or experience.
