Dr. Ricardo Komotar leads The Brain Tumor Research Laboratory at the Department of Neurological Surgery, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine; unique among brain cancer centers since it provides rapid personalized analysis of the genetics and drug sensitivity of each tumor isolated from a patient.

Each tumor harvested by our surgeons and is stored or “banked” and analyzed in the Brain Tumor Research laboratory immediately to determine the best, most effective therapy for the particular patient.

One part of the tumor will be used to perform DNA and RNA sequencing to determine mutations and over-expressed genes and RNA that are or might be potential drug targets. We have validated this procedure, and we have convincing drug targets based on sequencing studies from patients and our cutting edge research.
