On May 29, 1946, Christof Ludwig Knoll was executed by hanging at Landsberg Prison.
He wasn’t a high-ranking Nazi general—he was something far more disturbing: a former prisoner turned collaborator. Once detained at Dachau, Knoll rose to power as a Kapo, using his position to abuse, torture, and even help kill fellow inmates.

Survivors described him as ruthless. He ordered beatings, selected prisoners for execution, and carried out cruel punishments—especially in the Jewish barracks. Later transferred to the Mühldorf subcamp, his brutality continued in even harsher conditions.

Captured after the war, Knoll stood trial during the Dachau Camp proceedings. His defense—that he was “just following orders”—was rejected by the court. His final words were contradictory: part regret, part justification. But nothing he said could change his fate.
