Описание к видео How Drugs Affect the Young Brain | Party Talk Episode 005 with Jake White

How can you show youth how drugs impact their brain? Studies show that science is better than scare tactics. Knowing how to explain the affect of drugs on your brain can be tricky. You don’t want it to go “over their head” or scare them, but you want to make an impactful, honest point. In this episode Jake shares in simple language how drugs affect a person's brain and tips for sharing this info with youth.

Things to note:
A young persons brain isn't fully developed until 21-25 years old.
The frontal lobe (within the neocortex) is the last part to develop - that's where you do thinking about decision making, problem solving, long term consequences.
Using drugs at a young age stunts the growth of your brain. It can continue to grow faster after you STOP using drugs like marijuana and alcohol, but that time you spent hindering its development can't be brought back.
The limbic brain regulates your emotions and releases chemicals like endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. It's designed to reinforce healthy behaviors like eating, sleeping, exercising, etc.
Drugs hijack the limbic brain to release dopamine. So you get addicted to doing something that isn't good for your health or future.
The cerebellum takes care of your subconscious habits like breathing, swallowing, walking and reflexes. You don't even have to think about these things because your brain is so used to doing them.
When you use drugs, your brain wants to develop a habit from it (addiction) by moving that behavior into the cerebellum. That's why you get withdrawals if you stop using.
