Composer’s Notes
I’d be lying if I said that one of they key reasons for including a Minutemen theme wasn’t largely for the sake of adapting Inon Zur’s ‘Liberty Lives’ theme, which he composed for the game’s OST. As it was with most of the music in this collection, my goal here wasn’t to reinvent, but rather to explore the often melancholy emotional meat that’s so often lying under the surface of Fallout 4, hidden under the layer upon layer of shooting at things; too much so to really be appreciated.
Because this piece is largely adaptation more so than creation, the name of the game is orchestration rather than composition. For the minutemen, and Preston Garvey by extension, the aesthetic was pretty well laid out by the game itself; a group comprised of what can basically be described as revolutionary war reenactors filling the suddenly relevant shoes of local militia in a post-government wasteland. The instrumentation simply had to reflect - utilizing predominantly pipe flutes snares, and horns - instruments common to the American Revolutionary War Battlefield. The final result captures a simplicity and a yearning, I think, that is quite indicative of the group it attempts to embody.
