Oliver Cromwell, 70013, is first seen departing platform 2 at Retford station while working The Railway Touring Company's "The East Riding" railtour from London Kings Cross to Scarborough via Doncaster, Goole and Bridlington. The train passes slowly with both safety valves blowing off before stopping for water.

However, this was one of the strangest water stops I have ever seen. After filming the opening shot, I walked to the top of the bridge to film the train from there. No sooner had I started filming, the train started to crawl forwards. The strange thing was, the tour was only booked to have a half an hour pathing stop at Retford to allow for service trains to pass, and was due to water at the former Royal Mail Terminal at Doncaster.

I then decided to walk to where the train ended up taking on water, passing the water tanker turning around after moving from its regular position by the entrance to Retford Leisure Centre and Post 16 Centre. It moved up to the corner by Babworth bridge, not the best location for it I have to say!

Like Braunton a couple of weeks ago, Oliver Cromwell's safety valves were blowing off for much of the time while the loco was watered. I think they had a problem with the pipes at first as it looked like they weren't quite long enough, although they solved this issue quickly. I feared there was a problem with the loco at one point as some members of the support crew were looking at one of the driving wheels, and then another member started shoveling ash out of the ash pan and onto the track. Is that even allowed!

Having managed to get a few shots of the locomotive through the fence (which wasn't easy!), I moved up to Babworth bridge to get a good view of the train leaving.

The train then continued to Scarborough, leaving the East Coast Main Line at Doncaster and going through Goole, before heading towards Bridlington and finally arriving at Scarborough. After giving the passengers a two hour break, giving enough time for Oliver Cromwell to be serviced, the train returned to London via York. A diesel pilot was attached at Doncaster. I believe this was due to timing issues for water stops, although I'm not sure how this was an issue.
