Theft took place at Louvre with 3 to 4 thieves coming together.
Targeted Jewels: Thieves stole eight pieces of French Crown Jewels, including several 19th-century items. Stolen items included the tiara and bodice bow of Empress Eugénie, and diamond-and-sapphire jewelry once owned by Queen Marie-Amélie.
Dramatic Entry: Four masked individuals, using a mechanical lift mounted on a truck, gained access to the first-floor balcony of the Galerie d'Apollon. They gained entry to the gallery by cutting through a window using an angle grinder and other power tools.
Daylight Heist: The theft occurred around 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday, just 30 minutes after the museum opened to the public.
Quick Escape: The entire robbery was a matter of minutes, with some reports citing a total duration of under eight minutes. The thieves made their escape on motor scooters.
Dropped Crown: In their haste to flee, the robbers dropped one of the items—the crown of Empress Eugénie. It was found damaged on the street outside the museum.
Valuable Loot: The stolen jewels were valued at approximately €88 million, though they are considered of incalculable historical and cultural significance. They grabbed eight items, including emerald and sapphire-encrusted diadems, necklaces, and brooches, precious jewels from the Napoleonic era

Evacuation and Closure: Visitors and staff were evacuated as alarms were triggered. The museum was closed for three days, reopening on October 22, 2025, but with the Apollo Gallery remaining closed.
