The best smartphones of 2024 reviewed, after testing over five dozen - including my favourite camera phone, budget-friendly flagship Android handsets, mid-range mobiles, compact devices and more. What's your own selection of the top phones as we hit 2025?

Choosing the greatest tech from the past twelve months is always tough, even when narrowed down to the smartphones I've personally used. Rather than offering up what I think is the 'best', I've gone for what I'd personally choose in each category.

I've fully tested all of these phones in 2024, from the most capable camera handsets to the most powerful gaming pocket-fillers. With Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphones already emerging, that last category in particular was quite easy to fill. I've also reviewed a few foldables, and quite a lot of mid-range devices. In fact, choosing my favourite mid-ranger was probably the hardest of all.
