Ravana is described in the Hindu epic Ramayana as the great king of Lanka. According to Ramayana Ravana is depicted as the king of Rakshasas. Ravana is described as having been as a follower of Shiva, a great scholar, a capable ruler and a maestro of the Veena, but someone who wished to overpower the Devas. Ravana was born to great sage Vishrava (or Vesamuni), and his wife, the daitya princess Kaikeshi in Krita Yuga. People of Bisrakh village in Uttar Pradesh claim that Bisrakh was named after Vishrava, and that Ravana was born there. But according to Hela historical sources and folklore, Ravana was born in Lanka, where he later became king.

He is said to have ten heads. But not many people know that he was not born with ten heads. Som ebelieve that Ravana's 10 heads symbolise the six Shastras and four Vedas, making him a great scholar and the most intelligent person of his time. But if he had 10 heads, How he had got 10 heads? Actually a mysterious Mani was the reason behind his 10 heads of Ravana.

Ravana is the mythical multi-headed demon-king of Lanka in Hindu mythology. With ten heads and twenty arms, Ravana could change into any form he wished. Representing the very essence of evil, he famously fought and ultimately lost a series of epic battles against the hero Rama, seventh avatar of Vishnu.
