Gathering in the Light - Live On-Ice Opening Number for the 2023 FISU Winter University Games

American Ice Theatre and I spent a week in Lake Placid rehearsing for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter FISU World University Games, to perform live in front of 1500 international athletes, 2500 spectators, and the entire world feed broadcast, including ESPN. This piece, titled “Gathering in the Light”, was about seeing real people coming together in their own light, and finding empowerment through forward motion. Featuring an incredible cast of diverse skaters, and filmed by yours truly, this was truly unlike anything that has ever been done before on ice.
