City in the Forest - A Walk in Eugene, Oregon on a Warm October Evening

This part of Eugene truly feels like Middle Earth. As I take you on a journey among the ancient oaks, maples and Douglas firs of the West Broadway neighborhood, note the unique atmosphere of this place. In his video about a sense of place, @NotJustBikes mentions streets lined with a "kissing canopy" of trees, where the trees are made to grow at an angle towards the street instead of straight upwards. In this neighborhood, the trees are so large and mature that their canopy provides ample shade without altering their natural growth. Many of the trees in this neighborhood are over 200 years old, and many of the homes and apartments are over 100 years old. In addition to the sense of a city in the forest, this neighborhood offers unique corner stores, restaurants and food carts from a diverse variety of cultures, as well as music venues, churches and yoga studios.
