New details have emerged about the death of Wiandre Pretorius after police confirmed that he died from a self-inflicted gnshot wound at a filling station in Brakpan on Saturday night.

According to reports, Wiandre was with his wife, a police sergeant, when the incident occurred, and investigators have obtained CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe revealed that Wiandre’s name had previously surfaced in testimony connected to the 2022 torture and murder of Emmanuel Mbense in Brakpan. During the Madlanga Commission hearings, Witness D described the events of that night and mentioned several individuals who were allegedly present.

Authorities say the investigation into Emmanuel Mbense’s murder is at an advanced stage, and arrests are expected soon. Police are also investigating whether a possible hit squad may be targeting people linked to that night, as several individuals connected to the case have since died.

In addition, Brigadier Mathe confirmed that Wiandre Pretorius had been identified as a person of interest in the murder of Witness D, who was shot outside his home in December, and investigators were reportedly preparing to make arrests.
