The majority of my life has been leading up to this moment: my teens as a Potterhead, my years as a teacher, my English degree, my channel... it's all been for this video.

Over the span of over four hours, I go over my meticulously selected Top 30 Worst Characters in Harry Potter. If you like silly rants, in-depth analysis, a suspenseful list format and/or videos that you can listen to like a podcast, than buckle up baby cause this video is for you.

To calculate my rankings, I created a rubric, scoring each of the top 150 characters based on number of mentions in the books on a scale of 1 to 10 in the following 4 categories:

1. How harmful are the messages the character teaches children? 1 being the character teaches no harmful messages and 10 being the character teaches multiple messages that encourage prejudice and/or multiple messages that could bring emotional or physical harm to a child or encourage a child to inflict emotional or physical harm on others.

2. How prominent is the character in the books? 1 being only mentioned in one section of one book, 10 being present and active throughout the entirety of every book.

3. How closely aligned is the author’s intended outlook on this character with the character’s words and actions. 1 being the character’s treatment by the author is always aligned with the characters words and actions and 10 being the author’s intended outlook on this character is oppositional to the characters words and actions.

4. How often do the novels reckon with this character’s harmful views, behavior or presentation? How often do the novels reckon with the harmful stereotypes this character promotes? 1 being all the time and 10 being never.
