Local's guide to Cork city. This episode features Elizabeth Fort in the city center.

This star-shaped fort, built to withstand a possible Spanish invasion, was named after Queen Elizabeth of England. The fort was the home to the Black-and-Tans, an irregular British army force during the War of Independence.

The fort also housed convicts sent to Australia and the New World. Indeed, many of these female convicts went on to become known as the "founding mother's of Australia".
