"Nintendo's early work were successful but a bit too strange and new for my tastes, but when Super Mario 64 came out in '96, I think the series really took a new great turn, commercially and artistically. The first 3D Mario game had great visuals, crisp music, and a new set of future opportunities for more 3D Mario games that gave Nintendo a good long term boost. Super Mario 64 has been compared to Crash Bandicoot, but I think Mario had far more better, open world sense to it."
