The process of forming artificial rain or cloud seeding generally involves the use of chemicals such as silver iodide which is spread by aircraft from a height to speed up the process of raining in the clouds. However, instead of using planes, a research team from the UAE capital of Dubai tested a unique new method, namely using drones equipped with lasers to "stun" or send electric charges into the clouds. The results can be seen in a series of videos uploaded by the National Center of Meteorology on Instagram. Heavy rains were seen in several areas of the country. By utilizing this new method, Dubai can reduce the cost of using aircraft and reduce the risk of environmental pollution produced by chemicals. According to a study conducted by the American University of Sharjah in 2021, the process of artificial rain through cloud seeding also has the potential to improve the air quality of the UAE in the next few years.
