When I attended UNC Chapel Hill, I enjoyed eating then as much as I do now. Coming back to town, I’m thrilled to see so many restaurants I loved as a student are still open today. So I thought I’d take you on a culinary tour around Chapel Hill. And if we’re going to take that tour, we’ve got to begin at Mama Dip’s Kitchen at West Rosemary Street. This is where you’re going to find some of the very best Southern comfort food in the world. What do you say we head inside and pull up a chair? What sweets do you like, Mama Dip? Well I like sweet potato pie. I’ve had your sweet potato pie. It’s wonderful. Franklin Street is the main thoroughfare of New Chapel Hill. It’s where the local townspeople and students both come to shop, but more importantly, to eat! One of the most iconic restaurants on Franklin’s Street is Spanky’s. This restaurant has been in the same location on the corner of Franklin and Colombia for 48 years! If you want some of the best food after a football game or just late night or any time of day, this is the place to be. One of my favorite places to come for a great meal was right here at Time Out! They’re open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. And if you’re going to make the trip here, be sure to ask for my favorite item on the menu, the chicken n’ cheddar biscuit. We’ve had a great visit at Chapel Hill. And if you make your way to Southern part of heaven, be sure to take time out for the famous chicken cheddar biscuit.
