When Netflix embarked on the adaptation of Si Spencer’s mind-bending graphic novel “BODIES,” they needed an evocative title sequence that encapsulated the essence of a murder mystery unfolding through the eyes of four detectives across a century and a half. Enter Studio AKA director Marcus Armitage.
Answering the call of Moonage Pictures’ brief, Armitage delved deep, extracting a unique graphic language that drenched viewers in the time-twisting narrative of “BODIES.” The novel’s original logotype served as his canvas. Through its meticulous deconstruction and reassembly, Marcus crafted a mesmerizing succession of visual conundrums. Each one a riddle, unravelling softly as the sequence progresses.
Playing with the drama’s theme of investigations spanning various eras, the sequence nudges the viewer closer to its mysterious heart. Every letter of “BODIES” emerges through era-defined enigmas, ranging from snippets of Victorian newspapers to enigmatic futuristic DNA chains. It’s an invite, pulling viewers deeper into the story’s core.
Re-envisioning the original logo, Marcus and the AKA team spun it into a sleek, modern work of art studded with visual cues for every episode. But, to truly unravel the mysteries buried within, one must watch on…
